He did not say that the Romans put groves on the coins he said they had the PROBLEMS of clipping, he said the the reason TODAY we have groves is because of the clipping NOT that the romans did it.
He DID say the Romans “got smart” and started debasing their own money. But he only said the reason we have ribbed coins TODAY.
