Dangerous Allies: Big Business and Big Government

07/12/2010 – www.RonPaul.com Last week ended with some promising news on finally stopping the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately the administration still seems to believe that shutting down working oil wells is a higher priority than effectively dealing with the broken one. They are again issuing a moratorium on offshore drilling while maintaining a de facto ban on new permits even for shallow water drilling which they previously stated would not be affected. The courts have twice declared this unconstitutional, over 70% of the people see this as unreasonable, yet the administration seems determined to simply end offshore drilling, at least for those producers that cannot afford to sit idle for any unknown period of time until the ban is lifted. Whether or not this latest effort will hold up in court is yet to be seen. Sadly, many smaller oil producers in the Gulf see the writing on the wall and instead of waiting around and risking their livelihoods on the whims of American politicians and judges, they are leaving for friendlier business climates. What is happening to this country when the Republic of Congo is better for business than the United States? One big factor is regime uncertainty. Regime uncertainty is the opposite of the rule of law. It is the rule of the whims of the people who are in charge and what mood they are in on any particular day. It is usually associated with third world dictatorships and plays a major role in why some countries remain

    In the original writings of many of the founders our nation was constructed as a Constitutional Republic, NOT a Democratic Republic!

    BP has an abominal safety record. Killing US petrochem workers seems to be their second line of business. Yet they were permitted to drill in 5000 feet of water, which is a challenge even for our good Oil companies. This is another intentional disaster created by the US govt. Now they have a 20 billion slush fund for the lawyers and politician to dip into, they can borrow Billions from the Fed to fund the “war on oil spills”, and invade more countries that price their oil in Euros vs US dollars

  3. CJLopez21 says:

    @thotkrime well getting into it even more. we were a constitutional republic. but majoirty rule shouldnt even be a issue since all should have the rights anyway. on the bill of rights, it should just be remembered that were not limited to just whats written on it. that our rights go beyond it. ( 9th amendment) people being wealthy is not the problem, its the government and its officials.the special deals and the influence from the rich who wish to just further their own interests

    impeach Obama

  5. dantheleo says:

    The misconception that our country was founded as a Democratic Republic was done by Woodrow Wilson to connect himself with the founders. Wilson coined the phrase Democratic Republic into the mainstream of his party for this reason and because the Republicans in that era spoke often about our Constitutional Republic and need to preserve it, as the founders intended, from tyranny.

    Unless there’s proof to the contrary, I’d say the Republican Party “leadership” back-stabbed Ron Paul and supported John McCain in the 2008 election to maintain their “too big to fail” monopoly corporate sellout status!

  7. SmokestackSkyline says:

    @markrsg what good would accusing Obama of a crime do?

  8. numba1stunna4269 says:

    Ron Paul 2012!!!!!

  9. NewRevolutionLeader says:

    Republicans and Democrats are evil and we should not have to pick the lesser of two evils. Socialism works and provides economics and solitaire in overseas politics which brings success to America. Republicans and Democrats will try to scare you into thinking socialism is evil but many of our presidents were socialists including FDR and brought a prospering freedom to the US. Stand up with me and tell the government who is bought off by corporations and insurance companies A REVOLT IS NOW.

  10. KenrayWilliams says:

    @NewRevolutionLeader I love your sarcasm

  11. NewRevolutionLeader says:

    @KenrayWilliams
    What the hell kinda sarcasm you talking about I speak how I feel and you rag on me for what?

  12. Forlo12345 says:

    @SmokestackSkyline Accusing him is about as fruitless as accusing Bush of war crimes. Both have violated the constitution and should be punished, but we are at a point where Congress turns a blind eye and won’t do anything about it. So you’re right, accusing Obama won’t do any good because no one in government is willing to do anything about it. But, the accusations are true, more or less.

  13. icommontater says:

    @NewRevolutionLeader America has long used a fraction of the best that Socialism has to offer in some economic foundations, for example veteran’s affair, medicaid, post office etc. The wall came down, socialism as an economic solution failed. Russia and now most of Europe has collapsed. Didn’t you get the memo?

    Look on the web for

    “Franklin Roosevelt’s ‘Secret Map’ speech”

    to see how the anti-American Socialist, FDR, plunged America into war and debt on behalf of his banking cronies and global Marxism.

    True patriots such as Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh and Joseph Kennedy favored neutrality and good relations with Germany. Now we see why.

    Go Ron Paul!

  17. CandyFlipper1 says:

    This talk shows an understanding of F.A. Hayek and his chapter on the rule of law in the road to serfdom, its so refreshing to hear a politician saying things like this – even if he is an ocean away! Americans, please campaign for this man on my behalf.

  18. cowboy1165 says:

    @archelonprime youtube is rife with that proof. Just look-up (Jerry Day) using google trends as proof of a media blackout for a start.

  19. cowboy1165 says:

    @CandyFlipper1 Congressman Paul is a fellow at the Mises academy, and has given speeches in their forums.”please campaign for this man on my behalf.” Still campaigning on my own behalf but I’ll double my efforts.

  20. carcabe says:

    @NewRevolutionLeader Where does socialsim work? Socialism in European countries is propped up by affluent Americans buying their luxiry goods and billions ispent by visiting tourists. The you have Venezuela with its massive petroleum reserves. Freedom won’t produce a perfect world just the best possible world.
    The problem with the U.S. is not to much economic freedom but not enough. We have too much government spending, regulation and no free market money but the evil Federal reserve .

  21. robertcgage says:

    American democracy = 4th world Government, even behind Kongo. Thanks Dr. Paul for your update.

  22. MishuTaste says:

    If the federal government would ENFORCE oil drilling safety laws instead of taking gifts (bribes) from the oil companies, we wouldn’t have the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

  23. helltrackrider says:

    @MishuTaste

    Even better…if the Federal Government wouldnt regulate the Oil Companies to the point where they have to drill 200+ miles offshore; we wouldnt have this issue.

    Oil Drilling is a States issue; if the Oil Companies opt to drill within the US waterways, then let the Fed’s regulate it…otherwise, it is the States jurisdiction.

  24. zxcvbnmjhgfdsa1 says:

    @helltrackrider I disagree US has 3% of the oil, if US was more friendly they would drill in shallow and deep waters, more hostile there is the rest of the world. The US doesin’t make corperation do certain business, it’s just that all businesses do the bare minimum for the public and maximum for themselves.

  25. zxcvbnmjhgfdsa1 says:

    @robertcgage I agree 1st world people like the policies and can be changed, 2cd world policies were liked but are inflexible, 3rd world countries everyone hates the policies but their easy to change, in US everyone hates and ignorse the policies and they can’t be changed. How long can US remain wealthy?
